i love the smell of napalm in the morning!

bob, i'm still disquieted you haven't replied to my questions on sap.

ask jigs if he has
transformers: headmasters
transformers: victory
transformers: masterforce

i do indeed have different songs in my CD collection.
aside from what you mentioned, i have (off the top of my head) phil collins, simply red (i know you hate them but "for your babies" is just too cool) gary v (the ZEITGEIST of pinoy 80s music (how's that joey!) martin nievera, movie soundtracks, al jareau, etc.
the list in the blog is what's in mp3 format so i can recover if ever there's a crash and, just as important, to solicit suggestions from you guys because i know there's more i can listen to. thanks however, for being the only one other than jay to suggest something.

i'm glad to know you've taken up surfing and started going out more. it's good to build new memories. like back in high school & college. i remember witnessing the sight of rhochie playing tennis (jk rhoch), being amazed at tini's turkey (3 strikes in a row!) or going to jay's farm. we used to go out and do new things all the time before. i suggest scuba diving as your next activity, the philippines is ideal for that. you can also go surfing at this place near vigan. i forgot the name. andy herrera's a surfer chick by the way, maybe you can start hanging out with her. for a second i wondered why everyone's inertia had been to do, well, nothing exciting really. but now i remember, business was bad. still, it bothered me that we were always talking about old times when we could've been doing new things and making new memories.

as for me, there are things i have to accomplish abroad before i can retire back to the warmth of the p.i.
even if i do establish a viable industrial enterprise in the near future, i'd still be out.
i know not everyone has the same aspirations i do. and it's just as well. anyway, the world awaits me. 200 countries to explore and i need a month for each. and money! even though i should get a house first. time goes by too fast and i'm twiddling my thumbs. already i'm tiring.

Another night of drinks

Ryan, it occurred to me that in your list of favorite songs, you seem to have neglected your favorite Basil Valdez and Ric Segreto tunes. Come on Ryan, you were never shy.

We did have another round of drinks last night. This includes TC, AA, Molly, Aljay, Ching, Jigs, R-Jay, Rhochie and Mickey. This what at Cococabana on Kalayaan, Makati.

Decent food and beers for Php 28 - 35. Free parking. No wonder, huh.

No, I won't attempt to give any deep, insightful looks into how far we are from 1989. There's more than enough going on now and more things that we can do.

Jigs had our attention when he whipped out a list of TV and movie titles that his brother sells on the side. The biggest mover of the night was the complete episodes of the GTO-Great Teacher Onizuka anime. We do love that show, and Urumi, Tomoko, and Anko. And I suppose the title character Onizuka is fun too. About 4-5 of us ordered copies and expect delivery later next week.

Yes, there were requests for the usual Smallville and Friends shows. Then we started to get sentimental for copies of Equalizer, Wise Guy, Remington Steele, and Moonlighting.

Jigs assures us that his brother would go anywhere to get a copy of the titles he thinks can sell, so we may get our wishes granted soon.

Jigs will post the list on our yahoo group, so for those who weren't there last night, don't worry.

Then there were Jigs stories of mountain climbing. Mt. Pulag and Mt. Pinatubo were his most recent. He hopes to try for the arduous Mt. Halcon, where you reportedly have climb two smaller mountains just to get there.

I have my own hopes of white water rafting sometime soon. The season's now open, I've been told. Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya, here I come.

And if Philip manages to stay here long enough, we can get back to the surfing we tried in Surigao. Maybe the next time, we can stay on the board long enough. Always on falling off was fun, but actually standing on the board does look more cool. All this conveniently available in Zambales or Quezon.

Among so many others, these are all reasons to stay, don't you think?

travel tip

(from a travel website)

Phone operators in Germany still operate pretty much as they used to in Stalin-esqe times.
They respond to orders better than requests.
Here's what to say:

Operator, what is the area code of Munich?

Ha! It is nonsense to say area codes are classified!

Don't you know who I am?

I happen to have your file right here.

I'll have your hazel nuts in a vise, my friend! You'll wish you'd been born in Bulgaria. Put me through to Munich immediately!

---
"i happen to have your file right here?"
Kafka-esque.
guess the germans have their version of pinoy palakasan.

anyone know what a 'shnauzer video' is?

my comic book titles

* alpha flight
amazing spider-man
astonishing x-men
avengers
* cable/deadpool
* excalibur (vol. 2) <- not the british mutant group
* identity crsis <- d.c.
* iron fist
* iron man
liberty meadows <- image
marvel knights: 4
marvel knights: district x
marvel knights: spider-man
* new x-men: academy x
* secret wars
she-hulk
* spectacular spider-man
* superman <- d.c.
supreme power <- modern retelling of squadron supreme
* thor
* thor: son of asgard
ultimates
ultimate fantastic four
ultimate spider-man
ultimate x-men
uncanny x-men
* x-men
witches

* collecting only until current story arc ends.

apparently, having grown up reading marvel, i gravitate towards their 'universe'.

if you're planning to start reading comic books again, i recommend the 'ultimate' titles. this is separate from the current 'marvel universe' and everyone's origins are re-told so you dont have to have any marvel background. start with the ultimates (essentially the avengers: captain america, iron man, thor, wasp, etc...) i thought this was the best! (currently only 13 issues have been released in the past two years. that story arc ended as well. they'll be releasing 'ultimates, vol.2' later in the year.) you can follow it up with ultimate x-men and ultimate fantastic four. ultimate spider-man is also good, but peter parker is back in high school here so if you dont mind teenage drama and mediocre art...

'supreme power' is another good title to pick up. if you're familiar with the 80's squadron supreme, this is the 21st century version. imagine the JLA, but with a realistic response from the rest of the world!

in the current marvel universe, i recommend marvel knights: 4 (this is fantastic four) and marvel knights: spider-man. the writing and art is simply great! these titles also recently started so getting back issues would be easier and not too expensive.

astonishing x-men #1 came out last month so you might consider that also. it's written by joss whedon (of buffy and angel fame) and drawn by john casaday. art is pretty good, not the best, but i'm intrigued by how joss whedon would handle this title.

uncanny x-men has been handed back to superteam claremont and davis (two months ago) so you're sure it's written and drawn well.

superman, for jim lee fans only.

she hulk, simply sensational!

amazing spider-man, well come on! it's spider-man! btw, dont forget to catch the movie on openning weekend! i want this to do even better than the first one!

anyway, aside from ryan, does anyone else here still read comic books?

Yeesh...

You're surprised? I was the one who posted that originally and I don't remember that category. *scratches head in confusion*

huh.

don't remember that latter category.

cheesy zombie flick....

well, i took that zombie flick test and my initial result was....

lusty
You die a quarter of the way through while
having sex with your girlfriend.
You were very attached, so it's fitting that
you die together. That's what you get for
splitting up from the rest of the group.

How fast would you die in a cheesy zombie flick?

... i thought that cant be right... so i took it again...

hero
Congratulations! You can only be CARLO VILLANUEVA! As always, you are the HERO who saves the day! You came up with the genius idea of finally getting rid of all those damn zombies - with minimum loss of life as well as squashing any chances of surprise endings or sequels! You're the dude with all the slow-mo shots, macho chest baring fight scenes where it looks like it's the end for you but with supreme power of will you fight on and finish with your trademark kung-fu grip killing the evil mastermid behind this fiendish plot to populate the world with the undead (KEEYAH!) You are the strongest, funniest, wittiest dude with the simple good looks to get all the ladies! You give the last joke before convincing said ladies to join you in the jacuzzi for some bubbly and a lot of sexual healing...

Cool
You're the tough guy who gets the most zombie
kills. You make it most of the way, but die
heroically by sacrificing yourself and taking
out hundreds of zombies at the climax.

How fast would you die in a cheesy zombie flick?
hmmm...

gi joe
You're GI Joe with the Kung Fu Grip!! You're
strong, tough, and know how to kick some ass.
Don't forget though, no matter how manly you
think you are, you're still just a doll. God
Bless America.

the above is a rough draft of slow music that appeals to me. not all are properly categorized. i don't go by established categories like "country" or "pop" etc since i can never tell what's bluegrass and what's acid. i just listed by what feels right.
bear in mind it's 3 am and only a first draft.
part 2 will be tv / movie music
part 3 will be fast music
i'm trying to think of other songs i can include. i'm open to suggestions.
